Midwife Education Campaign to Enhance Maternal Safety in Tennessee

The CARE Tennessee Project
Communicate Clearly
Assess Continually
Respond Quickly
Empower the Patient

TNACC has received a Chapter/Section Grant from the American College of Cardiology to enact the Midwife Education Campaign to Enhance Maternal Safety in Tennessee, subtitled the CARE Tennessee Project.

Our goals are to ensure:

  • compliance in standard BP measurement techniques across midwifery teams as defined by ACC and AHA,
  • recognize specific gaps and
  • address them for a measurable improvement in BP measurement metrics.

We propose to partner with midwifery teams across health deserts in Tennessee to do the following:

1) Determine current blood pressure measurement techniques,
2) Recognize gaps,
3) Formulate tailored educational interventions,
4) Implement education and technical training sessions and
5) Reassess performance after intervention for any measurable change.

To our knowledge, such a collaborative project with rural healthcare providers in HRSA and HPSA designated healthcare deserts has not been previously performed in Tennessee.

The project is anticipated to be completed over the course of 12 months with periodic reporting to the ACC Diversity Group.

TNACC is looking for volunteers to participate in the various phases on the project who will also be included in the final publication.

If interested in participating, please email with CV no later than April 30, 2026 Thurs 5 pm CT
